Semi Final Playoffs
November 9th
Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice 4 - Brighton 3 (OT)
Warren DeLaSalle 2 - Livonia Stevenson 0 Spencer Thompson and Sal DiMercurio scored forDeLaSalle.
Hudsonville Unity Christian 1 - Mason 0
East Lansing 2 - Bloomfield Hills Lahser 1 (OT) On an extremely blustery night in Pontiac at Notre Dame Prep, two pretty good teams battled to a regulation draw, but East Lansing prevailed in the 4th minute of overtime. The wind wreaked havoc with balls in the air and even altered some on the ground, making the turf field even faster and trickier than usual. The first goal came only 5 minutes into the match on a rare EL defensive lapse that allowed Jesse Henderson to run on to a great thru ball and slot it home. The Trojans eventually equalized via Ali Philman with 17:22 left in the half after a rapid sequence of passes. Henderson showed skill on the rare Knights attack, but was met by a great save on the part of keeper Scott Zolkowski. East Lansing had the most of possession, but couldn't score again. Brandon Horvath kept the EL defense busy up top, but was mostly frustrated, leading to a yellow card for retaliation to a foul 10
minutes into the 2nd half. The wind kept EL's air game at bay (they usually score more on headers), but not forever. One goal was waved off late in regulation when Chris Hatch landed on Lahser GK Corey Antonishen when he came down from scoring. The OT goal came on a corner from Peter Houston to another Hatch header. East Lansing advances to the finals with a 25-1-1 record. Lahser ends at 19-5-1.

Goals by Houston, Hatch, and Philman, all at the end of passing sequences that started in the back six players away. In the 11th minute senior forward Peter Houston received the ball at the top of the box after the build up, turned his man, and fired home.
The score held 1-0 through the half. Oxford won few balls, had few chances, and was
overwhelmed by the Trojan team size and speed. Second half goals came in the 9th minute from Chris Hatch at the end of another rapid-fire series of passes started by left back Alex Nelson. Freshman Ali Philman capped the scoring with under 10 minutes to go, receiving the last assist from Houston. The

Terman finished Mason's scoring with an unassisted goal to ice the Regional Championship victory. Mason is now 20-3-1. This marks Mason's first appearance in the State Semi Finals since its '97 State Championship run, its third state championship.

3-1. Then Greenhills' Malcolm Albin scored to bring the score to 3-2, all within the

but Inter City Baptist's defense rose to the challenge, denying each attack. Edge put the game out

The game opened with both teams attacking and counter attacking
aggressively. Greenhills scored first on a well placed shot by Dean Louwsma, his fourth goal of the season. Lansing Christian
answered minutes later on a goal by Alex Grice off a corner. From about the 20 minute mark
onward Greenhills gradually gained an advantage in possession and shots on goal but Lansing
Christian defended well and the half ended with the game tied 1-1. In the second half Greenhills'
Aaron Stein scored the game winner on a scramble in front of the net. It was Stein’s fourth goal of
the season. Greenhills is 14-7-3 with the win. Lansing Christian wraps up its
season playing well in a hard fought loss and finishing with a 12-8-2 record.
Parchment returns to complete the game suspended by darkness on Tuesday and scores in the 7th minute of overtime.
Dowagiac loses in the last seconds of the first overtime in another game that would have been suspended due to darkness. How about lighted fields for regional games, even if the schools in West Michigan have to drive to Kalamazoo or St. Joseph?! 4pm is too late to start a match after the time change; earlier starts make it difficult for any fans to get to the site.

- Frankenmuth 1 Mason 1 - St. Joseph 0 (OT) Stephen Mesko sent a pass into the box and Ian Kato scored for Mason with 8:38 remaining in overtime for the win. Mason will face South Haven on Friday night for the Regional Championship.
Goals: Kilian Hamlin, David Barden, Chris Goldner. Assists: Chris Goldner, Nate Meilke, & David Barden. South Haven wins a thriller 3 minutes into 1st overtime on a great goal by Chris Goldner. The Rams go up 2-0 at half only to see a tough Chelsea team scrap there way back into the game. Chelsea scores 1st goal on a PK, and then score 2nd on a defensive breakdown by South Haven. South Haven came out strong in 1st OT and win the game. South Haven moves on to the Regional final vs. Mason with a record of 22-2. East Lansing 2 - Lapeer East 0 Lapeer packed in the defense and left only their big Finn as striker. It took East Lansing over an
hour to solve the puzzle, but in the 21st minute of the 2nd half, Philman won a penalty kick
(handball) and Wyant buried it. Five minutes later Hatch headed home a cross from Philman to
finish the scoring. There were numerous other chances both before and after. East Lansing (24-1-1)
will play Oxford (20-1-4) Friday at 6:30 PM in Fenton. Lapeer East ends season at 18-5-2. Oxford 3 - Mount Pleasant 2 (OT2) A game of two halves. Oxford had most of the possession at first and scored in the 18th minute on a well taken corner & header. It remained 1-0 at half, but MP equalized 2 min into 2nd half, then went up 2-1 at 25 min remaining. Oxford made it 2-2 on PK at 14:22. Oxford player sent off (red card!) at 7:28. Score remained tied thru 15 of OT, then Oxford won 51 sec into 2nd half of OT on shot after a scramble on corner kick. Kudos to Oxford for staying in the game (and winning) with 10 players, and to the Mount Pleasant keeper who gave his teammates opportunities to come back again and again. An entertaining game! Portage Central 5 - Muskegon-Mona Shores 0 Lake Orion 2 -Traverse City West 1 (OT) Birmingham Brother Rice 3- Grand Blanc 2 (SO)
Brother Rice beats Grand Blanc at Grand Blanc after 2 Over times and a shoot
out. Rice scored 4 of 5 during the SO to Grand Blanc's 3 of 5. Both Goal
Keepers made amazing saves throughout the game and the SO. Brother Rice came
back from a 2-0 deficit at half time to tie it up and put it into OT.
Brother Rice goes on to play Lake Orion Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. in Grand
Blanc.
Livonia Stevenson 2 - Woodhaven 1 North Muskegon 2 - Lawton 0 Hudsonville-Freedom Baptist 4 - Watervilet-Grace Christian 1 Two Freedom goals in the first two minutes of the second half broke open a halftime tie. Freedom's last goal comes with six seconds left. Aaron Haack scored the only Grace goal on a penalty kick. Grace finishes the season with an 18-3-1 record.
Brighton 2 - East Kentwood 1 The game was an interesting one. The first half was all EK. They had several good chances including a free kick from 20 yards out, directly in front. Cebula took a great shot, a grasscutter that seemed to skim the field and dinged off the post with a ding so clear it was like a bell ringing. There were other chances but EK did not convert. Brighton was tough with their backs to the wall and fought EK for every ball. They barely got a sniff at the EK side of the field in the first half. It seemed as if the Brighton coaching staff made a few adjustments at half since from the opening whistle, Brighton was on the attack and spent more time in the EK end in the first 10 minutes than they had the whole first half. The second half was up and down with both teams having opportunities. An EK foul drew a yellow, 3 yards off the side and 18 yards out from the end. A ball played into the box bounced around from here to there until finally ended up on the foot of a Brighton player who threaded it through the forest of legs and feet for a goal with 9:08 to go. Less then 1 minute later, EK tied it up. With 15 or so seconds left, an EK foul 10 yards into the Brighton end resulted in the ball rolling around. It stopped 10 yards deep into the Kentwwod half and was set and placed(smartly and quickly) by the Brighton player 20 yards in advance of the actual location of the foul. A long ball into the box was headed into the goal by a Brighton player. The EK keeper came out to punch it clear but the Brighton player beat him to it. The clock was being counted down and the ball was in the air, just off the head of the Brighton player when 0 was stated by the announcer. The clock system did not have a horn. The AR was 3 yards up the line - even with the last defender - and trying to watch the line and play (not watching the clock), the Center was 40 yards up the line just over the half line (watching the clock and play but not able to see whether or not the ball was over the line). While Brighton ran on the field and celebrated and half of EK hung their heads and the other half went to the Center and AR to argue the call... ...the Center went to converse with the AR and after a very brief (less than 1 minute) discussion, he blew the whistle and signaled a goal. It is too bad there was not a very loud horn on the clock. It is too bad that the restart was not brought back to the spot of the foul. It is too bad that such a great game, fiercely contested and played with great skill and class by both teams ended this way. Anyone who says anything negative about either team was not actually watching the game. Congratulations to EK. Congratulations to Brighton. Clare 3 - Oscoda 1 Oscoda bowed out of the District Soccer Tournament last night, losing to Clare, 3-1. Oscoda ends their season with a 7-11 record overall and 5-7 in Conference play. Both teams were evenly matched and played the first 58 minutes without a score from either side. Clare broke the ice first and then scored three times in seven minutes to finish the Owls season. Oscoda managed a goal in the 73rd minute when Tim Ruby shot from the wing and Senior Jeff Mertz collected the rebound and filled the net. It was a matter of too little too late tho for the Owls. Senior Captain Greg Ruby had an outstanding night in goal. He made several acrobatic saves to keep the Owls in the match until late in the second half. He finished with twelve saves in the match. Jon Jack was a terror on the defense and played a great game. Mike Mertz had another good game finishing with five steals and three intercepts. The Owls struggled with offense all season and only managed four shots in this game again. Overall the team made big strides this year, most notable was the huge change in attitude and behavior on and off the field.
