Bucks Announce College Cup
The Michigan Bucks are proud to announce the Bucks College
Cup Tournament I and II to be played on the Bucks stadium field
at Ultimate Soccer Arenas on back to back Saturdays, March 29
and April 5. Coming to town will be some of the top college
talent in the country, as well as many familiar faces to Bucks
fans. In the College Cup I tournament, Oakland University to set
to take on an opponent yet to be determined at 10:00 AM,
followed by NAIA powerhouse Lindsey Wilson College against the
University of Michigan at 12:00. Tickets information will be
posted to the Bucks web site in the next two weeks, but all
tickets will be good for both matches on Saturday, March 29. The
Oakland Grizzlies are led by senior goal keeper Steve Clark, who
will be back in goal for the Bucks this spring as they go for
their unprecedented third consecutive trip to the Premier
Development League (PDL) championship game. Anchoring the
defense for Oakland are Bucks three year defender Ian Daniel and
second year defensive midfielder Piotr Nowak. In the marquis
game of the day, Michigan coach Steve Burns takes his veteran
Big Ten squad up against one of college soccer's most electric,
high scoring teams in the nation. Lindsey Wilson has had a
decade long pipeline of star players to the Michigan Bucks, some
of whom have proved to be top players in the history of the PDL,
including this year's captain Nate Jafta. Jafta turned down
several professional offers in the off season to return to the
Bucks this summer and to Lindsey Wilson for his senior year.
Jafta has been one of the most exciting players to ever play in
the PDL, leading the 53 team league in assists in 2006 and
nearly duplicating the feat in 2007. Each of those campaigns led
the Bucks to the title game (with a championship in 2006) and
put him in the All PDL Starting Eleven in each season as well.
The following Saturday, April 5 the Bucks College Classic II
returns to Ultimate Soccer Arenas at the Bucks stadium to host
four consecutive top college matches beginning at 9:00 AM. In
the first game, Oakland University will take on perennial
Division 1 powerhouse Indiana University. Game two will feature
the instate college rivalry Michigan vs. Michigan State. The
Spartans will have to regroup quickly to take on the Oakland
Grizzlies in game three and the four game series concludes with
the Michigan Wolverines taking on the Indiana Hoosiers. All four
games will be 65 minutes in length and admission to all four
games will be just one low price. Not only will this be the best
place to watch the highest level of soccer in the area, but to
have four quality teams at the same venue is a rare commodity
for local soccer fans. The Bucks expect to have prominent
representation this summer from all four of these legendary
college soccer programs. Ticket information will be available on
the Bucks web site in the next two weeks.
