IGNITION INCREASE WIN STREAK TO 8
WITH VICTORY OVER IRONMEN
(Novi, MI, March 28, 2008) – The Detroit Ignition (20-7) defeated the
expansion New Jersey Ironmen (13-15) 6-4 tonight for the club’s eighth
straight win. The victory gave the Ignition a bye in the first round of
the MISL playoffs.
The Ironmen got on the board first as midfielder Tim O’Neill notched a
two-point goal just 42 seconds into the match. Exactly two minutes
later, Jamar Beasley evened the score with an unassisted two-point tally
for Detroit. With less than two minutes remaining in the first, forward
Worteh Sampson booted an unassisted two-point shot past New Jersey
keeper Tony Meola.
The scoreboard remained at 4-2 until the third quarter, when midfielder
Kyt Selaidopoulos added two more points for the Ignition with an assist
from netminder Danny Waltman. The Ironmen would score one more goal
before the match was over, but the Ignition held on and came away with a
6-4 victory.
The club will face the Milwaukee Wave (19-7) on Sunday at U.S. Cellular
Arena.
