LA RAZA “GOLDEN GOAL”
KNOCKS IGNITION OUT OF PLAYOFFS
Detroit wins Game 2 of series, but is
eliminated in sudden-death tiebreaker
(Novi, Mich., April 20, 2008) - A “Golden Goal” from Monterrey
forward Byron Alvarez knocked the top-seeded Detroit Ignition out of the
playoffs tonight in front of a sell-out crowd at Compuware Arena. La
Raza moves on to the MISL Championship Series Final next weekend where
they will face the Baltimore Blast.
The Ignition tied up the semifinal series with Monterrey with a 21-2
victory in Game 2 earlier tonight – the club’s largest margin of victory
this season. After a five minute intermission, the teams faced off in a
sudden death “Golden Goal” mini-match series tiebreaker. Alvarez scored
the game-winning shot with just under four minutes to play in the
mini-game, sending the expansion team to the MISL Championship.
The MISL Championship Final kicks off at 7 p.m. (EST) Saturday from the
U.S. Cellular Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer
Channel.
