Southfield, Mich.The Detroit Ignition (10-4) will host the Milwaukee Wave (11-4) Friday night at Compuware Arena at 7:35 pm (ET).  The Ignition are a half-game behind the Wave in the fight for first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

THIS WEEK’S OUTINGS

January 18, 2008:  Detroit Ignition (10-4) vs. Milwaukee Wave (11-4) 

The Detroit Ignition will host the Milwaukee Wave on Friday, January 18 at 7:35 pm.  The Ignition is a half-game behind the Wave for first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.  Wave forward Greg Howes, who leads the MISL in points with 62, scored a hat-trick in the Wave’s victory over the California Cougars on Saturday, January 13. 

LAST WEEK’S OUTINGS:

January 11, 2008:   Ignition, 12,  Storm, 4  - The Detroit Ignition (10-4) defeated the Chicago Storm (9-5) 12-4 Friday night to keep their share of first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

Ignition forward and reigning MISL MVP Jamar Beasley scored the first points of the match at 4:58 in the first quarter, a two-point goal with an assist from Ricardinho.  Chicago’s Mariano Bollella responded with two points for the visitors with just over a minute to play in the quarter.  Ryan Mack scored two points for Detroit 30 seconds into the second quarter with an assist from Droo Callahan to put the club up 4-2 at halftime.  

Midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos kicked the second half off for the Ignition with a two-point goal at 14:24 in the third quarter. 

Selaidopoulos struck again at 2:08 in the fourth quarter with an unassisted two-point score to give Detroit a six point lead.   Beasley scored his second goal of the night at 4:36, a two-point shot off an assist from Callahan.  Storm midfielder Matthew Stewart added two more points for Chicago at 7:41, but Ignition defender Jonathan Greenfield cemented the win for Detroit with a two-point score at 9:22.

IGNITION KEEPER NAMED MISL GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Ignition netminder Danny Waltman was named MISL Goalkeeper of the Week for the seven day period ending January 13. Waltman saved 15 of 17 shots faced against his former team, the Chicago Storm on Friday night. The Storm, who were tied with the Ignition for first place, were held scoreless for two consecutive quarters thanks in large part to Waltman’s stellar efforts in goal. Waltman also posted an assist on the weekend.
