The Detroit Ignition (14-7) will host the
California Cougars (8-13) on Friday, February 29 at Compuware Arena.
Kick off for the game, which will be nationally televised on Fox Soccer
Channel, is at 8:00 pm (ET). Coming into Friday’s game, the Ignition is
a half-game out of first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

February 29, 2008: Detroit Ignition (14-7) vs. California Cougars
(8-13)
The Ignition will host the Cougars on Friday, February 29 for “Faith
and Family Night” at Compuware Arena. The club has posted a 1-1 record
against California so far this season. The MISL today announced that
Detroit Ignition players Ricardinho, Droo Callahan and Danny Waltman
were awarded Player of the Week honors following the club’s 19-8 victory
over the Baltimore Blast last weekend.
LAST WEEK’S OUTINGS:
February 24, 2008: Ignition, 19 Blast, 8 The Detroit
Ignition (14-7) defeated the Baltimore Blast (14-9) 19-8 Sunday night at
Compuware Arena. The Ignition were led by midfielder Ricardinho who
scored three goals on the night.
The Blast got on the board first as forward Adauto Neto scored an
unassisted two-point goal just over three minutes into the match. At
12:23 in the first, Worteh Sampson responded for the Ignition with a
two-point tally off an assist from Droo Callahan. Less than one minute
later, Jamar Beasley gave Detroit a two point lead with a goal of his
own with an assist from midfielder Doug Rice.
Ryan Mack got things started for the Ignition as the second quarter
began, scoring a two-point shot with an assist from Hewerton Moreira.
The goal gave the Birmingham native his 50th MISL career
point. At 11:44 in the second, Ricardinho put a three-point score past
Baltimore keeper Dave Kern to give Detroit a 9-2 lead at halftime.
Just 11 seconds into the second half, Neto scored his second goal of
the night with an assist from Baltimore defender P.J. Wakefield.
Forward Machel Millwood added two more points for the Blast with an
unassisted two point tally at 4:47 in the third.
At 2:08 in the fourth quarter, Ricardinho scored his 50th
MISL career goal – an unassisted two point tally. Less than two minutes
later, Mike Apple added two more points for Detroit with an assist from
Mack. At 5:52, Moreira notched two points off an assist from Callahan
to give the Ignition a 15-6 lead. Six seconds later, Neto scored his
third goal of the game to put the Blast within seven, but Mack answered
back with a two-point tally at 9:11. Ignition keeper Danny Waltman was
credited with the assist on Mack’s goal. With less than a minute
remaining in the game, Ricardinho scored his third goal of the night - a
two-point score off an assist from Moreira to bring the final score to
19-8.
