THREE IGNITION PLAYERS
NAMED TO ALL-MISL TEAMS
Beasley, Callahan and Waltman receive
First and Second Team All-MISL honors
(Southfield, Mich., April 23, 2008) – The Major Indoor Soccer League
today announced the players selected to receive ALL-MISL First Team and
Second Team honors following a formal voting process that polled members
of the media, as well as MISL coaches and team personnel. Ignition
defender Droo Callahan represented Detroit on the All-MISL First Team,
while goalkeeper Danny Waltman and forward Jamar Beasley were named to
the All-MISL Second Team.
“This year we definitely had a collection of talented players having
great seasons,” Ignition Head Coach Bob Lilley remarked. “I feel all
three of these players are very deserving of their awards.”
Callahan, the Ignition’s captain, scored 62 points on the season, a
number that more than tripled his point total from last season. He
ranks second in the league in blocks, posting 62 over the course of the
regular season. Callahan, who posted his 400th career block this in
March, was awarded Defensive Player of the Week honors four times during
the 2007-08 season.
Goalkeeper Danny Waltman posted a league-leading save percentage during
the regular season, finishing the year with a .744 mark. He also led
the MISL in wins, recording 19 wins over the course of the season.
Waltman made his 1000th career save on February 24 against Baltimore,
and received two Goalkeeper of the Week awards during the year.
Beasley was the Ignition’s scoring leader for the second straight year,
tallying 82 points during the regular season. Beasley finished seventh
in the league in scoring, and was ranked fifth in goals with 33. In
March, he received Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring
five goals for 11 points against the California Cougars. Beasley, who
was the 2006-07 MISL MVP, tallied his 300th career point in March of
this year.
